Cundall has been named winner at the Datacloud Global Awards 2021.
The Datacloud Global Awards celebrate outstanding achievements across the data centre, cloud and edge sectors throughout the last year.
The Facebook Odense Data Centre, the team has been named winner of the Sustainable Data Centre Award. This award recognises innovation and technological solutions within the hyperscale data centre segment that helps reduce their carbon footprint and has an overall effect on improving their operation. The Odense data centre has demonstrated what can be achieved in data centre design, with a waste heat recovery system that recovered over 165,000 MWh of heat to provide domestic heating to 11,000 homes in the Odense Municipality.
The data centre is powered by 100% renewable wind energy, uses free cooling, and innovatively configured IAC units and heat pumps to drive very low PUE and WUE values. This has significantly reduced carbon emissions in design and operation of the site. The innovation, partnership, and forward-thinking approach of Facebook, and the implementation realised by the design team (led by Cundall) has brought forward an astonishing performance to Odense.
Peter Liddle, Partner in Cundall’s Critical Systems team commented: “We are delighted to receive the Award; it has been a real pleasure working with our progressive client Facebook in assisting them to realise their net zero ambitions for their data centre, helping Odense reduce its coal dependency by 25%."
