Cundall has won the CIBSE Employer of the Year award 2020 in the large company category. These annual awards are open to any organisations that pro-actively champions young people in the building sector, through commitment to young people in the workplace or by supporting those employees through education.
At Cundall, we are committed to helping build a pipeline of engineering talent and the best way to do this is to reach out to the younger generation and educate them on what it means to be an engineer. We take part in various outreach activities and local initiatives in communities and schools across the UK in the hope to inspire the younger generation and get them excited about the prospect of becoming an engineer.
Cundall’s diversity and inclusion strategy aims to help us build a business that values inclusivity, fairness and respect. We have developed three structured early career path entry points: Trainee, Apprentice, and Graduate, which enables us to attract junior talent with diverse backgrounds and experiences. All graduates attend an annual Graduate Induction event, where new graduates meet their peers, buddies and key people from the business. They also attend annual Graduate Conferences, where graduates have an opportunity to reconnect with their cohort from around the world and experience a day of networking and development activities, featuring presentations from our senior leadership team and various internal and external speakers.
During their career at Cundall, our young engineers are given the opportunity to rotate around different teams and sectors, allowing them to work on a variety of projects and with different people. Our graduates are also invited to apply for an international secondment once they have 18 months experience, which offers them an opportunity to experience working and living in a different country. This year we have had graduates spending time in Singapore and Hong Kong.
We regularly review and measure the success of our learning and development activities, in terms of both participant feedback, and outcomes for the business, and use this data to drive continuous improvement in both planning and delivery. This ongoing focus and review of all our early careers activities, will ensure that we do live up to our Cundall mission: to provide great opportunities for great people, create fantastic build environments, and leave a positive legacy for our communities.
We were very lucky to have been endorsed for the CIBSE Employer of the Year 2020 awards by young engineer, Ruqayyah Hashmi who said, “I endorse Cundall’s entry for the CIBSE Employer of the Year Awards because Cundall is a company that focuses on the employees. Cundall fosters a good, enjoyable working environment, where learning is championed, and where young professionals can learn and thrive.”
