TERHAL Show by Dragone
Structural design for the mother grid within a purpose-built venue in Riyadh
This dazzling theatrical production created by Dragone, in collaboration with the Saudi Ministry of Culture, opened it's doors in March 2023. The show honoured and celebrated the rich culture of Saudi Arabia featuring acrobatics, stunts, aerial performance and special effects alongside traditional Saudi art and dance in a newly constructed theatre.
Cundall provided structural engineering services for the mother grid structure that supported the scenery, performers, and special effects from the roof of the performance building and the rehearsal venue.
The multi-layered space truss, designed from standard aluminium modules of different depths and lengths, was easy to demount and adapt to different production requirements.
“The initial idea was to develop a solution that would work for the rehearsal venue in Dubai as well as in Riyadh. Due to very different roof layouts, the geometry of the structure had to be reconfigured, but we did it in a way that we were able to utilise same components,” says Gonzalo Navarro, Senior Structural Engineer.
It was great to be a part of a technical production team behind the show with more than 120 Saudi and international artists that explored Kingdom’s heritage and how its future is being shaped.
