T1 Sydney Airport Southern Bag Expansion
Expansion of the International Terminal 1 at Australia’s busiest airport incorporated the addition of a new automated check-in counter, a new building for baggage handling. Works also included future proofing the existing building to enable eventual development of a new hotel above the terminal. The project addressed the requirements of Green Star and Australian Border Force security protocols.
Our building services, lighting design, acoustics and sustainability team worked seamlessly to ensure the project achieved a minimum 4 Star Green Star standard. Life cycle costing and energy efficiency techniques were integrated into design and delivery. The building services team worked collaboratively with the architecture and construction team to ensure a cost-effective design was delivered with minimal disruption to airport operations.
"The check-in hall expansion defines the new look and feel for the entire terminal, and stakeholder relationships were crucial for success. Our team also addressed technical challenges including managing acoustics in a busy environment, integrating lighting with architecture to enable lighting to assist passenger wayfinding, and ensuring the thermal and ergonomic comfort of workers in the new Southern Baggage building."
