Royal Adelaide Hospital
Located within the Adelaide Health and Biomedical Precinct, the Royal Adelaide Hospital is one of the most technologically advanced hospitals in Australia. It features 800 single in-patient rooms, including 100 same-day beds and capability of hosting 80,000 same-day and overnight patient admissions per year. Biophilic design supports a healing environment for patients and a positive working environment for staff.
Our sustainability team provided strategic advice during design and collaborated with the construction team to ensure the as-built facility met stringent ESD specifications. In addition to achieving a 50% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions (compared to equivalent hospitals), indoor environment quality is elevated through high levels of natural light, low VOC finishes and naturally-ventilated sky garden balconies.
"We worked with the GBCA to create a bespoke Green Star compliance pathway for this facility – one of the largest hospitals built in Australia. Biophilic design elements like high levels of natural light penetration and access to views from every patient room ensure the hospital better achieves the core purpose of supporting occupant health and improving patient recovery." Lewis Hewton, Principal Consultant.
Improved occupancy comfort at Adelaide's largest hospital is a direct outcome of our sustainability solutions.
