Located in the masterplanned 5 Star Green Star (Communities) Carseldine Village, the multistorey Rockpool Carseldine Aged Care project provides a home for older people in need of care-focused living. The facility has been designed to operate without any on-site fossil fuel use, instead using all-electric heating, hot water, cooking and laundry, with on-site solar generation.

Cundall provided the sustainability framework and guidance to help the project achieve Green Star requirements across energy, water, waste, materials, wellbeing and innovation. The project incorporates exemplary energy-efficiency, passive thermal comfort, natural light, natural ventilation and rooftop PV to reduce mains energy use. A smart building system provides real-time data to optimise building operations.

“Rockpool wanted to future-proof Carseldine through embedding best practice. This also ensures the development provides the best quality environment for residents and staff. This is a new way of thinking about aged care, with a focus on wellbeing, vitality and enablement for residents while also making design and delivery decisions that reduce operational costs.” David Collins, Director.
