The former John Dalton House building - situated in a prime location on the corner of Deansgate and John Dalton Street - has been transformed into a modern 3-star hotel. The project includes a two-storey extension to the existing seven-storey office space, providing 261 guestrooms and a ground floor restaurant and bar with outdoor seating.

Cundall were appointed to provide multi-disciplinary engineering services for this modern city centre hotel. The concrete structure of the building was retained in order to reduce the project’s carbon footprint. As a result, the systems design had to be carefully coordinated to work with the existing floor-to-floor heights. A new lift core was constructed, housing two new lifts to accommodate the expected number of guests.

Richard Smith, Associate said "Qbic hotel was an interesting challenge for the team. We carried out extensive value engineering options to find the best and most cost-effective solutions for our client on this retrofit, sustainable hotel."
