With courts unable to adhere to social distancing during lockdown, it soon became apparent that work needed to be carried out to enhance ventilation and create a safe environment for cases to continue. During surveys the opportunity was taken to also seek ways to decarbonise the courts and develop a plan of work.

Cundall was appointed to undertake surveys at 17 courts during lockdown and report on findings. The reports advised on short, medium, and long term upgrades, and highlighted where items required urgent attention, and where there were opportunities to decarbonise operational energy. The reports informed the planned works, which Cundall developed into specifications to facilitate the tendering of the works. Cundall have continued to be appointed under a client monitoring team (CMT) offering technical engineering support with regular visits and witnessing final installations.

“… I found Cundall and all of their representatives to be experienced and professional which resulted in high quality technical reports being received in a timely manner which allowed the HM Courts and Tribunal Services (HMCTS) project to develop into a program of works”. Steven Hargreaves MIWFM, Regional Technical Manager, HMCTS – Property Directorate.

We have had fantastic feedback for the work our team safely carried out remotely during lockdown. We are very proud to have played a role in maintaining England’s judicial system.
