Marlborough Sports Garden
Net zero carbon community sports activity space for young people, with café and dance studios for a charity supporting in-need areas.
The Marlborough Sports Garden is an award-winning community project to encourage young people from an inner-city location to get outdoors and enjoy sports and other activities. The facility includes a community café, dance and yoga studio’s along with beach volleyball, sprint track and other sports.
Cundall have been providing pro bono design and consultancy services to support this community project.
The charity, Bank Side Open Spaces Trust and the design team are united in their ambition to make this community hub carbon neutral and are seeking to construct using reclaimed materials wherever possible. The building will be all-electric, with heat pumps providing low carbon heating and cooling, a roof mounted photovoltaic array and onsite battery storage to provide the best opportunity for low operational costs, as well as low carbon in use.
As soon as I read the enquiry, I knew immediately this was a project we wanted to be involved in. I could see a great opportunity to provide our expert services in low carbon design for a deserving cause and whilst not the biggest or most complex project I’ve worked on, it is one I am very proud to be a part of.
