The London Institute for Healthcare Engineering (LIHE) building is split over 3-storey and 4-storey, with meeting rooms, communal social areas and plant areas throughout. Sat on the banks of the River Thames, LIHE upper floors comprises of open plan research areas with similar features of an office space with meeting rooms and communal areas such as informal spaces, and plant areas.
With LIHE's site being located next to a heritage building, the air quality team had to think innovatively when devising ventilation strategies with air handling units incorporated in on-floor plant areas to avoid them being located on the roof in the sensitive heritage area. Our multi-disciplinary team also provided designs for a fossil fuel free building, two passenger lifts and air quality filters.
Stephen Maddocks, Partner, commented, "Despite the site being near a heritage building in a well built-up area, we successfully managed to provide our multi-disciplinary services and design solutions for what is expected to be London’s newest institute for pioneer start-ups and advancing new medical technologies."
Air handling units (AHUs) were incorporated in on-floor plant areas with air filters installed on each system to reduce the nitrogen oxides in the supply air.
