Data Centre – East London
Design of the base building and subsequent fit-out for the world’s first multi-storey indirect air-cooled data centre
The site is built on part of the former East India docks in London that was in-filled in the 1960s. The project comprises the design and construction of an innovative new build high-rise data centre located in a tight urban location. The data centre contains six technical floors, 1,120m² each with a power density circa 2,000W/m.
This project was the first time that indirect air (IAO) cooling was used over six storeys, located external to the building. This reduced the reliance on refrigerants which are a large contributor of greenhouse gas emissions. Developing this required extensive client collaboration and CFD modelling.
Andrew Moore, Partner at Cundall, said "There were significant challenges in land contamination; potential for unexploded ordnance and the presence of the East India Road tunnel."
Close collaboration with our client has been essential for the successful delivery of this ground-breaking project
