During the concept stage, Cundall performed a carbon accounting ‘optioneering’ exercise using Revit to assess the embodied carbon impacts of different structural frame options and presented these to the client. A cross laminated timber (CLT) frame was chosen as it had the lowest total embodied carbon and was sympathetic to the rural location.
Vaughan Bridges, Gleeds commented "This has been my first experience of working with Cundall and it has been an excellent one. They have been pro-active in developing this scheme with the client and been very responsive to all challenges."
A glulam lattice frame achieved the tight vibration constraints identified within the design brief and delivered a long span roof structure above a triple height atrium.
