Originally an office building, Amano is a 141-bedroom boutique hotel offering a unique panoramic view from the roof terrace. Nestled in the heart of London’s theatre district, the location offers access to the best entertainment, restaurants and shops that Covent Garden has to offer.
The project team were involved with the refurbishment of the 1980’s building. Comprising of five storeys, the team designed two additional floors that allowed for the rooftop bar as well as new lifts and core reconfigurations. Cundall tracked down the original structural drawings that enhanced their understanding of the building and maximised the opportunities available to the client.
Our structural team contributed to the coordinated BIM modelling of the original and new building, enabling clash detection coordination prior to construction, as well as providing an accurate future model. Key constraints were highlighted early meaning risks could be mitigated or managed as the design developed. The re-purposing of the existing office building for the proposed hotel demonstrates a sustainable approach in providing for the building's future needs.
The re-purposing of an unneeded existing office building for in-demand hotel use demonstrates a sustainable approach to building design and construction.
