99 Mount Street
Elevating the ordinary and breathing life into space through the artistry of lighting and experience-centred design
Older buildings in the Sydney CBD face major issues competing with newer commercial spaces that offer premium facilities, particularly with the mobility of tenants post-lockdowns. 99 Mount Street is an older building where two cost-effective upgrades were carried out to enhance the appeal – a new end-of-trip facility for cyclists and a refreshed Walker Street entry and level two foyer.
Given the limited budget for the EOT and foyer upgrade, the lighting design was a crucial element in enhancing the aesthetics and functionality of both spaces. The EOT amenities and accompanying carpark wayfinding lighting incentivise use of the amenities, while the foyer lighting seamlessly invites occupants in from the street and towards the lifts.
"Our lighting design has helped evolve very basic, utilitarian end-of-trip amenities and service entry into beautiful, safe and welcoming areas that add tangible value to the building and to the experience of those working in it. Through innovative design decisions and smart product specification, we made a small budget achieve a major transformation." Bettina Easton, Associate.
Considering the qualities of light and how it interacts with form and function underpins successful illumination strategies.
