I specialise in the application of low carbon materials, an interest that began when I first entered the construction industry as a trainee engineer with Cundall in 2013. I went on to complete a master’s degree in civil and architectural engineering at the University of Bath. Upon graduating, I gained experience in both the structural and sustainability disciplines, where I now work to quantify whole life embodied carbon to inform design decisions and help educate design professionals.
Creativity
I think there is opportunity now, more than ever, for the construction industry to be creative, especially in facilitating low-carbon design solutions. Engineering has always been a sector adapting to society and the changing world, so being involved in projects at the forefront of sustainable design is incredibly motivating and inspiring.
Collaboration
Being able to work alongside other in-house disciplines at Cundall has provided the opportunity to build confidence in collaboration and communication at an early career stage, as well as develop a greater appreciation for each designer’s contribution to the wider design team. I have found building these relationships internally has made teamwork that much more enjoyable, especially when we celebrate project successes!
