With over 17 years’ experience, I started my career as a fully qualified CAD/BIM technician before studying electrical engineering part time at Napier University. This helped me transition to become an electrical technician and progress quickly through senior and principal engineer and onto defence sector lead.
Throughout the years, I have applied my skills and expertise to a variety of sectors ranging from life sciences to workplace, developing an understanding of client requirements and expectations. After joining Cundall in 2020 I had the opportunity to apply my experience to the defence sector and in 2023 I became Cundall’s defence lead. Since taking over the role we have been involved in over 20 projects in this ever-evolving sector and we are continuing to improve and decarbonise defence estates across UK.
Excellence
I always want to do the best I can and support younger engineers using my experience in mentoring. As part of this I currently lead the Edinburgh electrical team supporting the growth of Cundall’s graduate scheme. In my role as a sector lead I work closely with our UK-wide defence team to continue to deliver technical excellence in all our projects with a huge focus on sustainable design.
Collaboration
Collaboration with stakeholders is key to fully understand their objectives and budgets align with the design process. It is also important that project teams are coordinated and work closely to identify the best solutions for each project. This is fundamental to the clients’ needs and increasingly their net zero carbon aspirations and deadlines as well as Cundall’s own Zero Carbon Design 2030 commitment.
