From a love of physics and hi-fi, a career in acoustics seemed like a logical thing to do. I have a BEng(Hons) in Electroacoustic from the University of Salford, am a Chartered Engineer, a Fellow of the Institute of Acoustics and Fellow of the Institute of Healthcare Engineering and Estate Management. I have sat on many industry committees including with the Institute of Acoustics and Association of Noise Consultants. I have contributed to a number of standard and good practice guidelines including Building Bulletin 93, FIS Guide to Office Acoustics and ISO 22955.
Engineering excellence
I specialise in fit-out design for workplaces, particularly coworking. This includes designing our own award-winning offices, combining new ways of design using biophilia, biomimicry and recycled materials to create inspiring workplaces. I also collaborate with the International Wellbeing Institute, as a member of their Sound Advisory Panel and WELL Faculty member. I received the IWBI Leadership Award in 2019 for leadership in advancing health through better buildings and stronger organisations.
Collaboration
Although trained as an acoustician, my passion is for multi-disciplinary engineering. Collaborating with other designers, getting under the skin of a project and working together to create something awesome – that’s what excites me. I also love to push boundaries. Why should we do things the way we always have – it doesn’t make it right?
