I always knew that a manufacturing-focused career wasn’t going to provide me with sufficient variety. My housemates – quantity surveyors in training - introduced me to the built environment and construction. At the start of my career, I learnt both mechanical and electrical engineering before specialising in electrical projects. As a Fellow of both the IET and IMechE, I have also mentored our early career professionals on their journey to chartership.
Collaboration
The great thing about the construction industry is that we love to see our designs become physical installations that provide lasting benefits to their users. Such projects can only result from effective collaboration. I have learned that communication, a willingness to listen, consider and respond are essential for delivering the best outcomes for our clients.
Creativity through engineering
Working in the advanced manufacturing, energy and critical systems sectors allows us to work really closely with technical engineering customers and subject matter experts. I enjoy learning and understanding how their processes and solutions have evolved and how we can create bespoke engineering solutions which are appropriate for and aligned to their process needs.
