Cundall is proud to announce three of our Asia-Pacific lighting projects have been shortlisted as exemplary small-budget designs in the d[arc] awards, one of the renowned international lighting industry competitions.

This year, the judging panel placed immense value on sustainability, asking for specifics of sustainable elements within project design and specification.

The interior lighting schemes of The Kitin and Gym Town, and the lighting installation for The Burra Burawa Birrung Gili public art project (a collaboration with Uncle James Carrol and First Nations artist Matt Fellingham) impressed the panel and achieved shortlisting in the "Places – low budget" category and "Art – low budget" category, respectively. These projects demonstrated Cundall’s design flair, and our ability to create impactful, human-centric, and cost-effective lighting solutions.

The [d]arc awards distinguish themselves by embracing a peer-to-peer voting system, allowing only designers and professionals within the field to vote for the winners.

Even with limited budgets, our team’s shortlisted projects demonstrate exceptional creativity, innovation, and sustainability in lighting design. Sustainability wins included strategically repurposing lighting fixtures and control systems from previous occupants, transforming spaces into inviting social environments and enhancing user experiences.

"Embracing the challenge of working within a small budget allows us to unleash our creativity and think beyond traditional boundaries,” said Pete Shing, Cundall Principal Designer and Hong Kong Lighting Lead.

“By strategically leveraging resources and exploring innovative and sustainable solutions, we can deliver lighting designs that cultivate luxurious and sophistication. We illustrated our ability to create opulent environments that captivate and inspire others, proving that luxurious is not solely defined by cost, but in the inventiveness and artistry of our designs."

Bettina Easton
, Cundall Associate and Australia Lighting Lead, expressed both pride and gratitude in the shortlisting. "This recognition highlights our pursuit of excellence in lighting design,” she said. “We are proud of our talented teams for their dedication into delivering these outstanding projects."

The winners of the [d]arc awards will be announced during the awards ceremony on Wednesday 27 March at Fabric in London. Cundall is also partnering with our manufacturer partner, Signify, to create a dynamic lighting installation during the event, adding an extra touch of artistry and creativity to the celebration.

The voting period is open from now to Friday 1st March. Cast your vote today and support Cundall's outstanding lighting designs that have pushed the boundaries of creativity and innovation - vote here.
