Double award success for Calton Hill

UK and Europe 28 六月 2019

Calton Hill has collected an award in both the RIAS Awards 2019 and the RIBA Awards 2019.

The Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland (RIAS) and The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) awards aim to recognise the exemplary quality and breadth of architectural endeavour in Scotland.

Cundall provided building services engineering for the refurbishment of one of Edinburgh’s most prominent landmarks. For the first time in 240 years the site is fully accessible and open for visitors. After a four year period of restoration, the Observatory, which had been left to degrade since the late 20th century, has been refreshed. The site consists of the restored City Observatory, the City Dome with Transit House and newly built exhibition space. The Hillside, restaurant, and welcome kiosk have been built at the East Gate.

Tony Centola, Building Services Partner said “For Calton Hill to be recognised at such prestigious awards is an honour and reinforces the work we did, alongside Collective Architecture and Faithful+Gould, to bring this landmark building in Edinburgh back to life. It is such a significant conservation project for Edinburgh and we are so proud to have been involved.”
