Cundall’s structural engineers contribute to the FIFA World Cup 2022

MENA 21 十一月 2022

We felt truly proud to watch the Opening Ceremony of the historic FIFA World Cup 2022 yesterday. Our structural engineers from London and Doha designed the cable structures spanning across the Al Bayt Stadium roof and supporting the ceremonies aerial flying system, which was used to fly performers and scenic pieces including Qatar World Cup mascot La’eeb and the official Emblem.

We were even more proud knowing that they also carried out structural design for “Al Nehem” whale shark, a large-scale art installation which is gently hovering above the Lusail Plaza suspended from the iconic Lusail Towers. Our electrical engineers helped with this artwork too by reviewing the electrical design and providing a local sign off.

Finally, our engineers performed a third-party structural engineering review of the Icon - a large scenic piece founded at the seabed which is part of the World Cup Water Show at Doha-Corniche.

This has been a fantastic collaboration between our London and Doha teams. Well done to all involved!

Thank you to our client Balich Wonder Studio for involving us and to all the contractors who fabricated and executed the show elements and the artwork including Stage One, Fab Pub, Y-Lines, Elegancia, Absen Optoelectronic, Creative Technologies, Hyundai, Midmac. We have enjoyed the collaboration.
