Cundall Conversations: encouraging the industry to take sustainable action

MENA 10 一月 2022

#CundallConversations #Sustainability

Our latest campaign highlights different elements of sustainability and encourages the industry to take action. Working in collaboration with leading businesses in the MENA region, Cundall Conversations shares insights into how industry titans including Majid Al Futtaim, Masdar and PWC are approaching sustainability and net zero targets.

As governments around the world acknowledge the urgency of the climate crisis, 2022 will be a tipping point for many companies to start their net zero journey. Cundall Conversations aims to share knowledge, engage in a collaborative approach to problem solving, and highlight the importance and possible ways of making every project more sustainable.

Mario Saab, Head of Sustainability MENA at Cundall said: “Sustainability stands as a large umbrella under which several factors come into play: from green certifications to performance simulation studies, renewable energy and net zero carbon assessments, through to health and wellbeing initiatives. We must integrate all of these different factors within our sustainable initiatives and work together to make change happen today and achieve our net zero goals.”

Cundall Conversations features Ibrahim Al-Zu’bi, Chief Sustainability Officer at Majid Al Futtaim. He discusses the importance of green building certifications, sustainable finance, ESG ratings and the value of green assets, specifically for the younger generations.

Niall Hannigan, Chief Financial Officer at Masdar, shares insights into renewable energy projects that are helping to achieve an energy transition to more sustainable sources and a zero-carbon economy. Niall also highlights recent innovative projects including waste-to-energy plants, decarbonisation through solar, and the latest R&D in the field of renewable technologies.

Sarah French, Real Estate and Travel Director at PWC, discusses why PWC targeted WELL certification for their new Dubai offices, putting the health and wellbeing of their employees at the heart of building design. Sarah also highlights some of the main lessons learnt throughout this journey, and the feedback received on both internal and external levels.

Finally, Mario Saab has a conversation with Abdalla Ghoneim, an aspiring structural engineer, about why every business should be embracing the net zero carbon journey, how Cundall successfully achieved their carbon-neutral certification and the role of the younger generation throughout this decisive decade.

A new episode will be published each week via LinkedIn and Twitter, with the first release on Monday 10th January.
