July 2023 saw the Birmingham office celebrate its 20th year anniversary.
Founded in 2003, in a virtual office, the first five staff are still with Cundall: Rob van Zyl, Alec Stewart, Peter Hazzard, Martyn Wilkinson and Angela Barnett. Several others who joined as graduates up to 17 years ago are still with the practice as well, something the business is immensely proud of.
Initially offering just building services, the small team secured both standard frameworks and several prestigious projects including Rolls Royce, Cadbury Bournville and the Northwest Skills Academy. This allowed us to win awards that demonstrated our sustainability agenda from the very start.
In 2007, the team of 12 relocated to Water Street, where our structural engineering and vertical transportation teams were started. In subsequent years, rapid growth led to another relocation to St Paul’s Square, where Andrew Parkin joined to offer acoustic and air-quality services and grow the business to 49 people.
To fill the requirement for a quality consultant in the city centre, 2014 saw the significant move to Colmore Row, our home now. Here Belinda Morgan, Andy Bishop, Alex Carter, Mike Gosling and Tim Stidwill joined to lead the growth of the practice to 120 staff. The most recent additions to Cundall Birmingham's service offering have been air-quality consultancy, lighting, and power engineering.
In the last 20 years, the office has delivered many amazing projects within the region, and won over 100 awards. On Thursday 13 July 2023, we were able to celebrate the last 20 years with our clients, by hosting an event with the backdrop of the glorious Birmingham skyline. Staff were able to reminisce and point out the buildings within the city that we have were involved with.
