Cundall Australia - Zero Carbon Tenants: it is possible
Many developers and property portfolio owners in the commercial office, retail and industrial sectors have committed to zero carbon buildings this decade. Currently, these targets and certifications relate to the base buildings under their direct control.
But tenants can account for between 40 to 80% of a building’s total energy use.
And whilst there has been an increasing focus on upfront carbon emissions, embodied carbon associated with the materials, and processes used to construct buildings, little attention has been paid to the materials used in tenant fitouts.
For a building to be truly zero carbon it must include both the landlord and tenants’ emissions.
In this panel session we discuss if this is possible, the opportunities and challenges, and how developers and building owners can engage with – and support – tenants to reduce all building greenhouse gas emissions to zero.
The session is moderated by former Partner David Clark, author of ‘What Colour is Your Building?’, and features a cross-section of industry leaders.
