Circular economy and decarbonisation – what’s the link?
People often use the term ‘circular economy’ when talking about ways we can reduce environmental impacts.
The current approach to materials is very linear and extractive, and it also contributes to the massive emissions footprint of the global construction industry. In 2022 the UN Environment Programme estimated construction material production was responsible for nine percent of all global energy-related carbon emissions. It is therefore important for the transition to net zero that we adopt a regenerative, circular and custodial approach to resources.
