Digital material passports - Magna Glaskeramik
Magna Glaskeramik is a product designed to emphasize circularity and is a great example of the next generation of low-carbon materials.
The circular properties of glass waste are harnessed by a process of sintering, which creates new crystal bonds in the shards and produces robust and versatile panels. This sintered crystal surface is low carbon by using mostly solar energy in its manufacture and has no additional binding agents that would alter the circularity of the material.
This is an ideal product to minimize embodied emissions and overall ecological impact for any project.
- 100% recycled glass cullet with no binding agents or resins.
- Environmental Product Declaration
- Cradle to Cradle Gold certification (providing credits in LEED and BREEAM certification).
- Closed-loop takeback system where agreed with client.
- Meets 6 out of the 9 watch points for the LETI Low Embodied Carbon Specification and Procurement Guide (others project dependant).
- Vastly reduced impact in comparison to virgin glass.
Perfect for low emission and circular façades
- Excellent thermal properties that reduce solar gain;
- Twice the tensile strength of ordinary glass;
- Shatter resistant;
- Crystalline, kaleidoscopic effect in varying light conditions;
- Can be recovered from existing project glass waste;
- Bespoke fixing system provided;
- Appropriate for use in the UK (already used on both residential and commercial projects).

What is a digital material passport?
A material passport is a digital document listing all the materials that are included in a product or construction during its life cycle in order to facilitate circularity decisions in supply chain management at the end of the building life.
At Cundall, we want to create a passport to materials/products that will also provide information before its use so designers and contractors are capable of making conscious decisions of products that could affect the embodied carbon and health well-being of a project, facilitating the inclusion of the best low carbon and/ healthy materials that align with their design.
