I am pleased to join other experienced Cundall colleagues with the RESET Approved Practitioner (AP) certification for Commercial Interiors, and Core & Shell. This newly gained certification allows me to fully manage the delivery of RESET projects across Cundall’s portfolio.
Road to the certification
Gaining the RESET AP certification meant undergoing comprehensive training, including in-depth coursework covering the principles of IAQ, sensor technology, data interpretation, and sound application of RESET standards to develop and enhance the necessary knowledge and skills to implement and maintain healthy indoor environments. Through hands-on experience at Cundall, I have learnt to apply theoretical concepts to real-world scenarios, enabling me to confidently assess, monitor, and optimise IAQ throughout a building's life cycle.
Moving from theory to practice
For core and shell projects, the focus is on the fundamental elements of the building design and construction. When working with architects, engineers, and developers, a RESET AP certification provides expert knowledge to ensure that IAQ considerations are integrated into building systems and infrastructure.
For commercial interiors, the emphasis is on assessing and maintaining indoor air quality to prioritise occupant health, comfort, and productivity. By promoting low-emitting materials and the design of efficient heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, RESET standard focuses on creating healthier indoor environments.
Indoor pollutants come from various sources, including building materials, furniture, cleaning products, and outdoor air pollution that infiltrate indoor spaces. Given the dynamic nature of indoor environments, affected by factors like building activities, occupancy levels, and seasonal changes, continuous IAQ monitoring is essential for identifying trends, detecting emerging issues, and ensuring effective mitigation measures.
RESET Air Certification focuses on real-time monitoring and continuous improvement of air quality within buildings. Real-time monitoring systems can provide occupants and building managers with visibility into IAQ conditions, helping them understand how their actions impact air quality. Approved sensors and data analytics measure key pollutants such as particulate matter (PM2.5), volatile organic compounds (VOCs), carbon dioxide (CO2), and relative humidity (RH), offering insights into the performance of the ventilation system are provided.
RESET AP’s assess buildings against performance benchmarks to help building owners and occupants optimise indoor environments for health and comfort. Vigilant and proactive monitoring helps to increase awareness so proactive steps can be taken to reduce pollution sources, improve ventilation, and enhance wellbeing.
As the demand for healthier buildings continues to grow, RESET Air Certification provides a useful roadmap for navigating the complexities of IAQ and delivering measurable results. By integrating RESET standards into every aspect of design, construction, and operation, RESET APs can help elevate building performance and contribute to a healthier, more sustainable future for all.
