You may have seen in the news last week that claims of asbestos related diseases contracted by school staff has exceeded £10m. There are of course ongoing discussions as to how much of an epidemic this is likely to become, but, with buildings at least we have a structure to assess the risks associated with asbestos in existing buildings. This is generally achieved through guidance such as HSE INDG223, and of course, legislation such as The Control of Asbestos Regulations, 2012. How we manage the risk associated with asbestos in soils is however, far more opaque.

It is fair to say that some consultants will not take on the challenge of risk assessing asbestos in soil, but, we have taken the opposite stance and are delighted to be able to demonstrate a track record of unique solutions that have achieved full regulatory approval. In full cognisance that risks associated with asbestos in soil can be some of the highest abnormal costs in development, we understand the importance of not only quantifying the risk, but achieving cost-effective solutions that achieve regulatory compliance, whilst also taking into account sustainability and programme targets.
