Located in Tsing Yi, the Transport Department Vehicle Examination Complex (TDVEC) is the largest vehicle examination centre in Hong Kong spanning 3.4 hectares. This multi-storey complex houses state-of-the-art facilities designed for a large volume of vehicle examinations including taxis, buses, and heavy goods vehicles. It has successfully achieved a BEAM Plus Platinum rating under the New Building Version 1.2 rating tool.
Cundall was appointed as the sustainability consultant to perform a micro-climate study during the technical feasibility study stage of the project. This comprised conducting a dynamic thermal simulation to determine annual energy consumption and the impact of proposed energy-saving initiatives. Our scope of work also included leading the BEAM certification process and providing sustainable design solutions such as an air ventilation assessment, glare analysis, and so on.
Joe Tang, Hong Kong Office Director, comments "We are pleased to have been able to collaborate with the architect and client to provide sustainability consultancy services for this facility. It is the first of its kind and has replaced the vehicle examination centres in Kowloon Bay and To Kwa Wan to serve as a more comprehensive and larger-scale facility for the growing transportation industry."
This project reflects industrial growth and places a strong emphasis on sustainability, achieving a BEAM Plus Platinum rating.
