The Smithfield project aims to regenerate Birmingham’s city centre by creating a new, vibrant hub that will bring value to the local community and attract international visitors. Our vertical transportation and acoustics teams have worked through the concept designs to provide innovative solutions over four of the Phase 1 plots. These locations include residential apartments, workspaces, mixed use developments, and market space.

Our vertical transportation team has carried out feasibility and lift traffic performance assessments in line with Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers and British Council for Offices requirements. We provided firefighters and evacuation lift designs to meet legislative requirements. Our acoustics team prepared noise models and maps to inform the planning submission and wider EIA. They also provided design advice for three of the individual plots, both commercial and residential, on Phase 1 and the energy centre.

Graham Barker, Director of Vertical Transportation, commented, “Since opening our Birmingham office in 2003, we have gone from strength to strength. The Smithfield project is a great opportunity for acoustic and vertical transportation teams to support the redevelopment of this iconic area in the city.”
