As leaders in ESG, The GPT Group put sustainability at the forefront of everything they do. Already operating a carbon-neutral office portfolio, GPT elevated the sustainability credentials of its latest development at 32 Smith Street, Parramatta, by placing climate change resilience at the heart of the design for the 28-storey, A-Grade commercial office tower. The sculptural architecture incorporates a ground level urban room for gatherings and events, an open-air terrace on the podium level and a rooftop tree-covered sky deck. The property has achieved a world-leading 6-Star Green Star Design and As Built rating.
Our sustainability team worked closely with the client, contractor and subcontracting team to develop and deliver sustainability strategies that addressed every aspect of building systems and services through the lens of futureproofing for climate change. Our approach also addressed NABERS Energy and Water as well as Green Star requirements including certification of timber, local procurement, low-VOC finishes, solar PV installation and sustainable material selections.
"The GPT Group has an exemplary focus on both the environmental and the social benefit aspects of sustainability. The climate resilience strategy, for example, incorporated not only modelling for future temperature rises and increased incidence of storm events, but also a framework and approach for ‘invacuation’ – providing shelter to the public – if this is needed in an emergency," said Project Manager, David Sparks.
Close collaboration with The GPT Group and Richard Crookes Construction was essential; guiding the team at every stage of design and construction to achieve great sustainability credentials.
