BRIT School

  • The BRIT School project involved the construction of a new two storey music and dance facility housed within an extension building to the existing main school building. When the new facility was completed the existing building was refurbished to create a larger canteen area, a relocated Library facility and a new Lecture Theatre space as part of a re-organisation after the music and dance areas have transferred to the new building.

Burwood Campus Thermal Upgrade Project, Deakin University

Melbourne, VIC, Australia

  • The improvement of thermal comfort across various buildings in the Melbourne Burwood Campus by installing air-conditioning services. These five buildings had either no air-conditioning or inadequate systems resulting in significant complaints relating to heat comfort levels. A centralised plant was installed to service these buildings whilst providing the infrastructure to extend the air conditioning facilities to other buildings at the Burwood Campus. All works were planned to minimise disruption to students and staff and completed within one academic year.

Canterbury College

Canterbury, United Kingdom

  • Canterbury College provides academic and vocational skill courses for the local community. The overall footprint of the college is now 45,000m². Cundall was appointed as strategic building services consultants for Campus 2007, a major two phase re-development of Canterbury College. The two-phased development programme involved new build and refurbishment, working to designs by Charter Architects to provide a state-of-the-art education facility.

Cartwright Gardens, University of London

  • Cundall has been appointed by University Partnerships Programme as part of the design team for a student accommodation scheme in central London. The two year construction programme commenced on site in summer 2014.

Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London

  • The relocation of diverse elements of Central St Martins College of Art and Design (CSM) into a new central campus on the 61 acre Kings Cross goods yard redevelopment was a major undertaking for the college and university. The new home of CSM incorporates: historic railway buildings (including the Grade II listed Granary building that was modified to respond to CSM’s needs), a flexible new build studio and theatre space. This is all based around a 110m long internal ‘street’ at the heart of the 39,000m² scheme.

Channing School Redevelopment Project Phase 1

London, United Kingdom

  • This £5.5 million, 1645m² project provides new sports facilities and sixth form accommodation in modern brick-built buildings that overlook north London from the school’s campus at the top of Highgate Hill.

Collège Français Bilingue de Londres

London, United Kingdom

  • Cundall was appointed to provide building services and sustainable design for the College Francais Bilingue de Londres within Kentish Town, London. The project consisted of the conversion and extension of the vacant Grade II listed Victorian Board School building to create a facility to serve 700 pupils ranging in age from 5 to 15 years old.

Decentralisation of District Heating System, Durham University

County Durham, United Kingdom

  • This project was carried out on a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where most of the buildings are listed and where new archaeological discoveries can be anticipated. Cundall undertook a feasibility study to determine the best way of establishing a new boiler plant to serve the buildings around The Palace Green.

Derby Moor Community Sports College

Derby, United Kingdom

  • Full engineering design services for a 13,000m² school in Derby, originally as a sample school in the Derby BSF programme but now being constructed as a Design and Build contract for main contractor Balfour Beatty.

Earth and Environment, University of Leeds

Leeds, United Kingdom

  • The Earth and Environment School was designed to meet the departments' need for world class teaching and research. The project involved the complete refurbishment of the existing building and the addition of a 4-storey wing, which was designed to minimise carbon and waste. The overall project for refurbishment and new-build achieved a BREEAM ‘Very Good’ rating.
