My route into building services engineering happened by chance. Having started studying chemistry at Nottingham, I realised that my real interest lay in engineering, so I changed my course to Building Services Design (Architectural Environment Engineering) and I haven’t looked back. I have been fortunate to be involved with sustainable design throughout my career and applied this to helping develop the Department for Education’s BB101 Environmental standards for schools.

Collaboration

One of the most important things as an engineer is our ability to collaborate with others. We need to communicate complex ideas in a language that others will understand and take them on journey to understand why the solutions we are proposing work for everyone.

Creativity

At heart I believe all engineers are problem solvers. The biggest problem we now face is climate change and decarbonising our existing building stock, this will require innovation in how we approach retrofit design.
