Sketching buildings and understanding context of place was my introduction to exploring art and science. I studied architectural engineering, where the importance of different disciplines in the built environment, and how they impact form and function, became apparent to me. I was also introduced to ecologically responsive buildings and how they are not only good for the environment, but people too. I am a Chartered Structural Engineer with an MSc in Renewable Energy with Architecture, and a PhD in the interplay of sustainability and resilience in the urban built environment. I was on the Board for the Institute of Structural Engineers (IStrctE) from 2011 to 2014, and in September 2022, I was elected Trustee and Vice-President for IStructE's UK & Europe Region for 2023-2025.
Creativity
Creativity drives my sense of exploration of how to provide ecological responses to reduce our impact on the planet. I am now considering hazard risk reduction and how to further inform sustainable development of the urban built environment.
Collaboration
I really enjoy facilitating sustainability in design and working with project teams, sharing knowledge and seeing ideas inspire people to make them into something better.
