Repositioning and resilience rewarded at CTBUH Awards for Excellence

Just around the corner from Cundall’s Sydney office is one of the best adaptive re-ruse and repositioning projects in the world – and we are proud to have worked on it! Blue at Lavender Bay by Aqualand has been recognised with an Award for Excellence in the Repositioning category of the 2023 CTBUH Awards of Excellence.

The redevelopment by Aqualand transformed the outdated commercial tower, System Union Place, into an upmarket multi-residential property. Cundall provided ESD advisory to the project, which was designed by PTW Architects.

Another of our projects, 32 Smith Street by GPT has also won an Award for Excellence in the Best tall Building 100-199 Metres category. Designed by Fender Katsalidis, the premium commercial building in the heart of the rapidly-growing Western Sydney CBD has achieved 5.5 Star NABERS Energy Base Building, 5.5 Star NABERS Water Rating 5.0 Star NABERS Energy and 6 Star Green Star.

Cundall provided ESD advisory for the development, which was designed for future-proofing and resilience and features a public climate event refuge space and architectural features that reduce the impact of urban heat on both occupants and the street-level public domain.

All Award of Excellence category winners will now be vying for ultimate category winner status at the Council for Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) Conference being held in Singapore and Kuala Lumpur, October 16-21, 2023. The 20 categories include Awards are given in more than 20 categories encompassing design, delivery, repositioning, urban habitat, innovation in delivery, interior design, engineering and construction. Among the distinguished panel of judges for the Best Tall Non-Building category is Cundall’s own Dr Chaoming Yu, Structural Engineering Associate Director based in the Singapore Office.
