New Associate Director puts building services at the forefront for Cundall Madrid

UK and Europe 13 March 2024

Cundall Madrid is pleased to announce the appointment of Cesar Paniagua Garrido as Associate Director. Cesar joins Cundall to lead our building services team and help support growth in the Spanish market.

Cesar is an industrial engineer with more than 20 years of experience in the industry. He specialises in the technical design of mechanical systems, with a focus on HVAC systems and energy efficiency across a wide range of projects including higher education facilities, commercial offices and large-scale retail spaces.

In recent years, Cesar has successfully led teams to deliver a number of high-profile projects, overseeing them through all stages of design and always ensuring technical excellence. These projects include the striking new BBVA Headquarters in Madrid, where Cesar’s team utilised trigeneration (combined cooling, heat and power from a single generator) and geothermal power to sustainably operate the entire 220,000 m2 office complex and tier IV data centre.

Additionally, Cesar oversaw the development of Campus Mesena, the new Acciona headquarters in Madrid. The 100,000 m2 complex runs on geothermal technology and features radiant ceiling cooling. Currently, he is involved in new projects that aim to minimise overall building energy demand by utilising water-condensed thermal production methods alongside dual heat recovery. This innovative approach, combined with geothermal technology, aims to minimise the overall energy demand of the building through maximum thermal self-compensation.

Commenting on his new role, Cesar said:

“It is an exciting time to be joining Cundall and be part of its sustainability journey. Cundall is a leader in sustainable design and is committed to achieving net zero carbon in design across all its projects by 2030. It is an honour to be part of a team that is so passionate about making a difference through their work. This reflects my own passion and expertise, and I look forward to leading the building services team and continuing to set a high technical standard for on our projects.”

Cesar’s appointment reflects Cundall’s desire to increase its building services offering alongside its already well-established sustainability consultancy in order to better assist the Spanish construction industry as it strives to achieve its net zero carbon targets.

Jose Castilla
, Director of Cundall Madrid, commented:

“Our industry is responsible for nearly 40% of global carbon emissions and therefore has a huge responsibility to decarbonise. We are dedicated to helping our clients meet their net zero carbon targets and hugely excited to have Cesar lead our building services team. The addition of his expertise will allow us to expand our service offering to provide our clients with technical mechanical and electrical design alongside the industry-leading sustainability strategy and advice that we already offer.”

Cundall’s Madrid office was opened in 2007 and has 26 staff delivering sustainability, building services, civil engineering, and fire design services across all sectors.
