Cundall Hong Kong celebrated its 15th Anniversary with a fabulous evening event on the 16th of November.
The Hong Kong office was first led by Julian Bott, who had been working for Cundall Sydney office. He was joined in his leadership role by Jonathan Yau in 2008, Alasdair Bamford in 2009, and Joe Tang in 2011 with the office expanding steadily over the years to 50 staff, including admin and marketing teams.
The practice initially offered sustainability consultancy, and added building services engineering shortly after Alasdair joined the business. More services have continually been added to our repertoire as we have moved forward, with Cundall Hong Kong today offering up to eighteen services, including Acoustics, Building Performance Services, Structural Engineering, Lighting Design, IT/AV, Security, Digital Engineering etc.
We are very grateful that over 150 guests joined us to celebrate this special occasion, as without the support from our clients and partners, we would not be where we are today! We are also grateful we have been able to provide the best-in-class multi-disciplinary engineering consultancy service to our clients despite challenging times such as COVID and global downturns.
Looking ahead to the next 15 years, we will continue on our mission to be agents of change, delivering innovative and sustainable solutions to create the net zero future with our clients as part of our Zero Carbon Design 2030 commitment.
Sustainable gifts
As a token of appreciation to our clients for their support and collaboration on an outstanding range of projects, we prepared gift bags made from plantable seed paper. Inside these bags, we included two locally-sourced items - a raw organic honey produced by local Hong Kong beekeepers and a bag of sesame candies handmade by our local charity partner, St. James’ Settlement. All the proceeds of the sesame candies go to their community programs and support the beneficiaries.
Hong Kong 15 Year Journey video
We have created a short video to relive some of the Hong Kong office’s milestone achievements since 2007, showcasing how we have been pushing the industry’s boundaries and delivering excellent in design.

Decarbonising the event
Cundall’s commitment to zero carbon by 2030 is not only limited to our projects, it also applies to our events and campaigns. As a first step, we have calculated the carbon emission of the Hong Kong 15th anniversary celebration event, which comes to a total of 35.7 tCO2e. This was calculated based on our food and beverage consumption, flights, accommodation, local transport, and waste etc. If you are interested to understand our calculation methodology, please get in touch with us.
By calculating and disclosing the carbon emissions of this event, it helps us better understand our impact on the environment and encourages us to look for ways to reduce our carbon emissions from future events. In the next few weeks, we will work towards offsetting our carbon emissions through collaborating with our selected local conservation charity who will focus on conserving the local natural environment, and contributing to the habitat we are living in. Please stay tuned for more details to follow.
