The Gingerbread City has made a return to London and it includes a spectacularly sweet design from Cundall!
Located at the Westfield London in White City, the annual exhibition by the Museum of Architecture engages people of all ages to think about the built environment through a whole city constructed from gingerbread. Featuring professionally designed cityscapes from some of the industry's best architectural designers, the exhibition gives us the opportunity to share our sustainable ideas with people from different industries and sectors.
This year’s theme is “Water in Cities” and delves deeper into the innovative solutions to the barriers we face in society regarding water shortages, flooding and pollution. The exhibition is split into five separate zones: Canal City, Underwater City, Floating City, Frozen Landscape and Urban Floodplain.
A multi-disciplinary team from our London office volunteered to leverage their skills and creativity and design a structure for the Floating City zone. Their charming entry features a gingerbread lighthouse surrounded by sugary isomalt water. A submerged gingerbread bridge provides access to a biscuit beach, where fondant seals bask and double dip wind turbines tower over fizzy, greenbelt trees.
The Gingerbread City is open to the public until 7 January at Westfield London in White City.
