We would like to congratulate Dr Elisabeth Marlow, one of our Principal Consultants in the Sustainability team on her recent election to the position of Vice President of the Institution of Structural Engineers.

Elisabeth's election is just the latest stage in her involvement with IStructE, having previously served on the Educational Trust Board and Education and Sustainability Construction panels as well as completing a three-year term on the Board from 2011 to 2014.

Having recently returned from a significant career gap, Elisabeth's personal statement highlighted the findings of her recent doctoral research into decision-making interplay of sustainability and resilience across policy, urban planning and practice and how these could contribute to the Institution's sustainability strategy and enable regional responses to be developed and actioned.

"My key findings are not comfortable because codes of practice are not climate adaptation ready, and more importantly practitioners know more than they are able to implement. By re-engaging with the Institution, I will work collaboratively with panels to generate more effective changes around adaptation of urban built environments, social usefulness and hazard risk reduction for the different regions."
