Cundall contributes to the UK Net Zero Carbon Buildings Standard

08 October 2024

September saw the launch of the pilot version of the UK Net Zero Carbon Buildings Standard (UK NZCBS), which is the UK’s first cross-industry standard for net zero carbon aligned buildings. The UK NZCBS is a free-to-access technical standard that will enable the construction industry to robustly prove that built assets align with the UK’s carbon and energy budgets.

We are proud to have a number of people from Cundall contribute their expertise towards creating the Standard across a number of task and sector working groups:

Karen Shi, Principal Consultant, Management and Technical Support

Robin Pritchett
, Associate Director, Operational Energy

Sector groups

Gilles Alvarenga
, Sustainability Associate, Commercial Residential

Sarah Linnell
, Principal Sustainability Engineer, Commercial Residential

Oleksandr Poborskyy, Associate, Hotels

Theodor Bratosin, Senior Sustainability Engineer, Logistics

Simon Wyatt
, Partner, Science and Technology

Andrew Somerville
, Partner, Science and Technology

The Standard is for anyone who owns, operates or designs buildings and wishes to definitively demonstrate that their building is net zero carbon aligned. As a robust industry-backed initiative, the Standard should be useful to policymakers as it outlines what is needed to support the UK’s net zero carbon transition.

Commenting on Cundall’s contribution to the Standard, Simon Wyatt, Sustainability Partner, said:

“The UK NZCBS will be the most significant Standard for the UK built environment. Having a unified approach to net zero carbon, such as this, was for a long time lacking in the industry. Creating sustainable buildings has always been something central to Cundall’s design approach, and we are proud of our team’s contribution in the development of the Standard including leading its development for a number of sectors.”

We are looking forward to hosting briefing sessions and round tables as an opportunity to discuss what the Standard means for specific sectors.

In the meantime, if you would like to learn more about the Standard, please visit the UK NZC BS, where you can download a copy of the Standard, register for their webinar on the 31st October, and sign-up to receive their updates. Our team is also available to help with any queries you may have.
