Carole O'Neil sets new records and qualifies for commonwealth championships

20 June 2024

After years and months of training, our Managing Partner, Carole O'Neil, has qualified for the Commonwealth Championships, which are set to take place in South Africa later this year. Over the weekend, Carole was crowned English 3-Lift Champion at the English Nationals, securing her spot to compete at the Commonwealth Powerlifting Federation Championships in October 2024.

The Commonwealth Powerlifting Federation will host the event in Sun City, South Africa, from October 4 to October 13. Carole will compete for a podium position at the event, which is held in conjunction with the IPF Master Worlds.

Some of Carole’s highlights include a 140kg squat, a 5kg personal best, an 82.5kg bench, a 175kg deadlift and a 397.5kg total, both of which are records in the Yorkshire and North East division of British Powerlifting.

Carole comments on her achievement: “I had a bit of a reset in my powerlifting goals in summer 2023, with a change of coach and a new approach to a few things. As 2024 is a Commonwealth year, I had a few goals that I wanted to hit, and Saturday's competition was the culmination of eight months of hard work in and out of the gym, and a solid focus on those goals.

“I was over the moon to achieve what I set out to do, and I'm excited to start prep for the Commonwealth Championships in October and see what I can do on the international stage. Although it's an individual sport in the sense that I'm the one standing on the platform, there's a whole team of people who help to make it happen (including lots of support from team Cundall), so massive thanks to everyone who's offered a word of encouragement during this prep!”

As Carole prepares for this significant event, she continues to inspire those around her with her unwavering dedication and hard work. The entire team at Cundall is rallying behind her will be closely following her progress.
