Cundall's Madlen Jannaschk and Celine Cannam accept the award on behalf of Cundall and DevelopmentWA at the Consult Australia Awards Gala Night
Over a decade of success in shifting the dial on sustainability in Western Australia's property sector has been recognised in the Consult Australia Awards, with Cundall and DevelopmentWA winning Highly Commended in the Excellence in Collaboration category.
The prestigious annual Consult Australia Awards for Excellence celebrates the contributions, expertise and innovation of consultants in the engineering design and project delivery sectors.
Cundall has been working with DevelopmentWA, the Western Australian Government’s central development agency, since 2014 to develop tailored best-practice sustainability approaches for major masterplanning projects and special events. The strong working relationship has resulted in the achievement of Green Star Communities ratings for places and precincts that are providing homes, employment hubs, mobility links and public space for thousands of people, while also setting new standards of excellence for the wider WA property industry.
Outstanding outcomes on projects include three Green Building Council of Australia 6-Star Green Star certified Communities projects (Montario Quarter, Subi East and Alkimos Central) and delivery of a Climate Active certified Carbon Neutral event that has helped inform subsequent events and activations.
Furthermore, the Alkimos Beach and Alkimos Vista partnership projects between DevelopmentWA and Lendlease, who engaged and manage Cundall, saw Alkimos Beach as the first in Australia to attain a 6-Star Green Star Communities rating, with Alkimos Vista certified 5-Star Green Star.
“As the State Government’s central development agency, DevelopmentWA has a unique opportunity to shape and create sustainable communities. The practical example of project outcomes makes policy meaningful and resolves stakeholder concerns by proving better outcomes are cost-effective, attractive to the market and extremely attainable,” said Cundall Associate Director, Oliver Grimaldi.
DevelopmentWA chief executive, Dean Mudford said DevelopmentWA has an ongoing commitment to demonstrating leadership in environmental, social and governance approaches to development.
“A guiding principle is to provide proven pathways for others to follow. We were one of the first to identify Green Star Communities (Green Building Council of Australia) as an appropriate tool for achieving sustainable outcomes, and our Montario Quarter project was the first precinct-scale urban infill development in Western Australia to achieve a 6-Star Green Star Communities rating.”
