Hosted by Joanna Peacock, the session will tackle the challenging areas of sustainable procurement and innovative materials that can promote a low carbon design.

Our speakers Gilles Alvarenga and Alex Mar Morales will give an overview of embodied carbon, circular economy and healthy materials in the built environment. They will provide an update in relation to the market in Bristol, the current landscape in policy and regulation and what changes we can expect to see in the future.

They will showcase how Cundall has reduced embodied carbon, maximised circular approaches on projects and worked with clients to ensure the use of sustainable materials. They will discuss lessons learnt and key design considerations for different building sector typologies.

Finally, they will introduce Cundall’s work on different innovative fields showing their low carbon and healthy material database, materials passports and their new Bristol Material Library that aims to inform clients and design teams about alternatives that will provide environmental benefits to project. The team will present the new Cundall Carbon Calculator Tool, which aligns with the RICS Guidance 2nd Edition, to provide an innovative alternative to measure carbon, circularity and understand environmental parameters.
