Zero Carbon Design 2030
At Cundall, we always strive to push the boundaries of the built environment and are committed to a more sustainable future. In 2020, we achieved carbon neutrality as a business, and have now set ourselves a new and even more ambitious goal; by 2030 every design project will meet our net zero carbon definition and will align with science-based targets.
With the built environment responsible for nearly 40% of the world’s carbon emissions and the need to fight against climate change intensifying, it is imperative that we work together as an industry to take responsibility for our emissions and work to eliminate them.
Zero Carbon Design 2030 (ZCD2030) is a global initiative that aims to engage everyone at Cundall – every office, every discipline, every level – to help our clients to achieve their net zero carbon goals. It is embedded as one of our core pillars and is a non-negotiable part of our strategy.
Achieving net zero carbon design on 100% of our projects by 2030 is a challenging target, but we see it as our duty to create a more sustainable future for our planet. We have set ourselves interim targets to measure progress and celebrate the successes on the journey.
While many others in the industry have made commitments, no one else has been this ambitious. There is no existing blueprint for how this can be done, and we recognise that not every project can achieve net zero carbon today, but we are committed to being industry leaders and collaborating with our clients and industry to make Zero Carbon Design 2030 a reality.
Carole O'Neil, global Managing Partner, said, "Cundall is an advocate for responsible, sustainable design, and we are staunchly proud of our strategic commitment to achieving net zero carbon design on all our projects by 2030. The industry is changing rapidly, and we believe it is our responsibility not just to be part of the move toward a greener more sustainable built environment, but to lead it."
We want to collaborate with our clients and bring them along on the journey with us as we strive to achieve our goal. The first step is to issue net zero carbon pathways on all our projects, and we have been working hard to achieve this.
To enable those around us, we need innovators, experts, designers, entrepreneurs, and consultants to facilitate, educate and show them the way – and that is exactly what we are doing at Cundall.
