Vodafone’s world headquarters is a 55,000m² campus-style office development, comprising seven separate buildings and a canopied external circulation area.
Vodafone sought a ‘best practice’ solution, not just in terms of the end product, but also in how it was to be achieved. Cundall was retained to provide innovative engineering solutions. The project also pioneered a new form of contract, monitoring efficiency of construction methods, resolution of design issues and standards for site welfare and safety.
Environmental considerations were high on the agenda and the development’s environmental credentials were crucial to obtaining planning consent. The buildings feature a ‘mixed mode’ environmental control strategy, using natural ventilation coupled with low-energy air-conditioning, provided by passive chilled beams and a low-level air supply system. The building design significantly reduced CO2 emissions and annual energy consumption in comparison to most commercial buildings.
Cundall was selected as part of the briefing and design management team and helped introduce new ways of working to enhance effectiveness.
Cundall was appointed to provide the building services design for Loxley House, an award-winning 23,000m² office and call centre complex.
Cundall provided a comprehensive multi-disciplinary service to the design of the new world headquarters for Sage Software, located at Newcastle Great Park.
