Cundall was employed to carry out external works design and site implementation for a new 45,000m² VVIP Palace in Doha. The palace includes indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a 7 star spa and gym all with extremely high spec finishes required by this client.
Cundall was responsible for the civil and building services engineering (MEP) detailed design. In addition to the design, Cundall had a dedicated team on site to manage the implementation of the design and to inspect and sign off the construction works. The site team was also responsible for managing the other sub-consultants and their contracts.
The project involved major basement works which included a number of challenges due to the as built basement slab installed by a previous contractor. Loading issues required an innovative solution of a lightweight expanded clay aggregate (LECA) from Denmark at less than 80% of the weight of traditional fill. This solution required detailed phasing, on-site training and very rigorous inspection and testing processes due to the large amount of utilities in the external works.
Externally, the palace includes major water features, state of art lighting design and controls which required major co-ordination exercise between all services within the landscape. Cundall managed the entire external works process and were the clients lead consultant responsible for every item outside of the main palace building including the coordination.
Cundall were appointed to carry out an assessment of the fire and life safety provisions as part of a phased refurbishment of the Al Kuwari office building, Doha, Qatar. The building has a basement and eight floor with a total area of 11,300 m².
Cundall was responsible for masterplanning of two new plot areas for civil, MEP and transportation disciplines within the Bahrain Bay Development, an ambitious master plan that will redefine the Manama seafront.
