The Malings, East Bank, Ouseburn, represents Carillion-Igloo’s first phase of development of the Lower Ouseburn Valley as part of a Development Agreement with Newcastle City Council and the Homes and Communities Agency.

Cundall was appointed in February 2012 to provide planning consultancy services to support the development.

This work has included:

  • Extensive pre-application discussions with the City Council and other key agencies
  • Screening the Development for Environmental Impact Assessment
  • Developing a strategy for public engagement and organising, staffing and documenting a significant programme of community engagement
  • Co-ordination of Planning Submissions
  • Negotiation of scheme details to ensure a positive committee recommendation
  • Negotiation of s106 Legal Agreements
  • Supporting the client at Planning Committee


Consent was granted in January 2013 for this development and Cundall has been retained by the client to continue providing assistance with:

  • Project management / submission of the discharge of conditions
  • Advice on future phases
