Cundall was appointed to develop the conceptual design of mechanical and electrical design, client monitoring and advisory role overseeing the design and build (D&B) contractor and take the role as LEED Assessor.

The phase 1 development comprised of seven data halls of 680m². The building is capable to be scaled up to 23 data halls on the campus.

Deeply involved since the project competition, Cundall defined the main strategy that has allowed this landmark datacentre be the first Tier IV, LEED Gold certified project in Spain. During the project inception, an innovative outside air cooling strategy was defined utilising bespoke air handling units with the objective of operating in free cooling mode for almost 95% of the time. In parallel Cundall was leading the LEED certification process facilitating a holistic approach to the final product.

During the detail design stages the design process was taken over by the main contractor under a D&B contract with Cundall being novated to a monitoring role.

Key Cundall initiatives:

  • Outside air free cooling for almost 95% of the year
  • Modular plant allowing for staging during construction/operation First Tier IV, LEED Gold certified data center in Spain
