This industrial manufacturing project is a modern production facility which replaced two outdated existing factories. The project consisted of a new steel frame, 12,000m2, high bay factory together with a 3-storey office facility.
Cundall’s skills and expertise in the industrial sector were recognised by our appointment to provide an outline design and performance specification for this low energy, low carbon DREAM ‘Excellent’ (a sustainability assessment for defence construction projects) rated facility. Our aspiration was to create an environmentally responsible scheme utilising existing central plant facilities, whilst recognising and understanding the operation of the facility.
The project required 1,500 CFA piles, a heavily reinforced floor slab and substantial concrete machine bases to micron settlement tolerance; complex natural ventilation modelling.
Close co-ordination was required with the client team in order to deal proactively with numerous potential changes investigated and instructed.
The new 30,000m2 manufacturing facility for BAE Systems sees the replacement of the existing First World War facility to provide employees with a modern, safer, highly automated, energy-efficient and flexible place of work.
The Plumbing Industry Climate Action Centre (PICAC) is an innovative $9m training facility for plumbers and mechanical contractors, and was opened in April 2009. It provides skills based training courses in the design, installation and maintenance of sustainable plumbing and mechanical systems.
Goldbeck Construction was appointed to design and build two large industrial developments: one in Milton Keynes and one in Thatcham. These developments included a number of industrial warehouses with offices of varying size.
