Cundall was appointed to provide MEP design for the Newcastle University Research and Training Laboratories at their Singapore Campus. The 11,227ft2 space includes two 50-seat classrooms, a seminar room, four research laboratories and office space.
The purpose of the project is to establish and grow a Research and Innovation Centre for postgraduate degrees, CPD training, small workshops, master classes and joint research in collaboration with NTU, NUS, Government Agencies and local industry in Singapore. This is a significant project for Newcastle University as it is the first of its kind.
The facility is designed to encourage collaborative working. Modular power units and high level suspended power / data services in lab areas are created to maximise flexibility to meet with the constantly evolving requirements of these spaces. A state-of-the-art, multi-purpose, 4k visualisation suite and seminar space has been integrated within the facility to provide easy connections to Newcastle University in the UK. In particular, Cundall provided added value to the internal lighting, which was an issue the client was keen to address, having experienced issues in the space they previously occupied
The Baddiley-Clark Building, a new building for Newcastle University's Faculty of Medical Sciences, which brings together a critical mass of world-leading bacterial cell biologists and provides them with state-of-the-art facilities in which to push the boundaries of research and knowledge.
